Original French national flag from the Second World War era, measuring approximately 72 x 34 inches (183 x 86 cm). Constructed from durable linen or heavy natural fiber, the flag features the traditional blue-white-red vertical tricolor, each panel individually stitched. The color tone and weave clearly date this to a wartime production, with signs of age, such as minor toning in the white field and wear at stress points.
The hoist side retains its original rope and wooden toggle, securely sewn into a heavy canvas-reinforced sleeve. This configuration is typical of flags issued to official or military institutions, such as naval depots, railway stations, or Free French administrative posts.
Of particular note is the clearly stamped “D.R.R.” marking on the hoist — a rare wartime designation interpreted as “Drapeau de Réserve de la République” or “Drapeau Réquisitionné de la République”, signifying that this flag was placed under government or military control during the conflict. These markings add significant historical context and desirability for advanced collectors.
