Original German World War II Sterbebild (memorial death card) commemorating Feldwebel Xaver Stelzl, the son of the mayor of Oberschwandt. According to the printed text, Stelzl participated in the campaigns in Poland and France and was awarded both the Iron Cross 1st and 2nd Class as well as the Infantry Assault Badge.
The card records that he succumbed to severe wounds on 27 July 1941 in a field hospital in Russia at the age of 27. The front features a portrait of Feldwebel Stelzl wearing his combat decorations, while the reverse depicts Saint Florian, accompanied by a religious prayer.
A desirable and historically significant early-war German casualty card documenting a decorated NCO who served in multiple campaigns before being killed during the opening stages of Operation Barbarossa.
