Original German WWII Gebirgsjäger Edelweiss cap badge, representing the famous Edelweiss flower traditionally associated with German mountain troops.
The badge features a detailed metal construction with textured leaves surrounding a separately applied multi-colored flower center. Several small mounting holes are positioned around the outer leaves and at the base for attachment to the cap.
The reverse retains the metal securing tabs used to hold the central flower components in place.
The Edelweiss was the distinctive emblem of the German Gebirgsjäger (Mountain Troops) and became one of the most recognizable pieces of insignia associated with these specialized units during the Second World War.
This example displays an attractive period appearance with visible age-related patina, oxidation and wear, particularly to the colored center.
