Original German WWII Heer Gebirgsjäger Edelweiss sleeve badge (Ärmelabzeichen), worn by members of the German Army’s mountain troops.
This example is the classic flat machine-woven BeVo pattern, featuring the distinctive Edelweiss flower with white petals, yellow center and green stem and leaves, surrounded by a grey decorative border on a dark green backing.
The reverse displays the characteristic woven construction with long floating threads typical of this type of period-produced insignia.
This example has been closely trimmed around the original woven design and displays the appearance of an insignia that was worn and subsequently removed from a uniform. The edges show expected fraying and loose threads, while the embroidered design itself remains well preserved with attractive age toning and strong original colors.
The Edelweiss was the traditional insignia of the Gebirgsjäger and was worn on the upper right sleeve of the field blouse and other uniforms by qualified German Army mountain troops.
A desirable original wartime example with genuine field-used character, ideal for a Heer or Gebirgsjäger insignia collection.
