Original German WWII Black Wound Badge 1939 (Verwundetenabzeichen 1939 in Schwarz), awarded to German military personnel who suffered one or two wounds as a result of combat or enemy action.
The badge features the characteristic German steel helmet bearing a swastika, positioned over crossed swords and surrounded by an oval laurel wreath.
This example is of hollow stamped metal construction and retains portions of its original black finish. The front exhibits considerable period wear, with areas of the underlying metal visible and an attractive age-related patina.
The reverse is clearly maker marked “63”, identifying the manufacturer as Franz Klast & Söhne, Gablonz an der Neiße. The original vertical pin, hinge and catch assembly remain present and functional-looking.
A nice maker-marked example of this classic German WWII combat decoration, showing honest period wear and plenty of character.
