Original German Mother’s Cross in Gold (Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter) awarded during the Third Reich to recognize German mothers who had given birth to eight or more children.
Instituted on 16 December 1938, the Mother’s Cross honored women whose large families were considered a significant contribution to the German nation. The Gold Class represented the highest grade of the award, with the Bronze and Silver classes recognizing mothers with fewer children.
This beautiful example features the classic gold-finished sunburst, white-bordered translucent blue enamel cross, and central medallion bearing the inscription “DER DEUTSCHEN MUTTER” surrounding the black enamel swastika. The reverse displays the inscription “16 Dezember 1938” along with Adolf Hitler’s facsimile signature.
The cross retains excellent original finish with rich blue enamel, making it an impressive and highly desirable example of one of the Third Reich’s most iconic civilian decorations.
Condition
Excellent overall condition. The gilt finish remains bright with only minor age-related handling wear. The blue and white enamel is exceptionally well preserved with vibrant color and no significant damage observed. A very attractive display piece.
