Original SA Sports Badge in Bronze (SA-Sportabzeichen in Bronze) awarded during the Third Reich for successfully completing the physical proficiency requirements established by the Sturmabteilung (SA).
Officially instituted in 1933, the SA Sports Badge promoted physical fitness, endurance, and military preparedness among German citizens. Although originally intended for SA members, eligibility was later expanded to civilians who successfully completed the prescribed athletic tests.
This example is a desirable early solid tombak construction displaying an attractive bronze finish. The obverse features the traditional vertical sword superimposed over a swastika enclosed within an oak leaf wreath. The reverse bears the motto:
“ALLES FÜR DEUTSCHLAND”
“WIR WERDEN”
“SAAR BRÜDER!”
The badge retains its original vertical pin assembly and is maker marked:
Wernstein Jena
A fine original example of one of the classic political awards of the Third Reich.
Condition
Very good overall condition. The bronze finish remains attractive with honest age-related wear. The reverse pin, hinge and catch are complete and fully functional. Lettering remains crisp and easily legible.
