Original German WWII Deutsches Reich Arbeitsbuch (Employment Record Book) issued in Vienna to Anna Hieleinhefer, née Krejči.
The Arbeitsbuch was introduced under the German labor registration law of February 26, 1935 and served as an official record of a worker’s personal information and employment history.
This example is particularly interesting as the holder is specifically recorded as “nicht reichsdeutsch” (not a Reich German national). The book was completed through the Arbeitsamt Wien in 1940 and contains numerous original handwritten entries, official stamps, employer markings and signatures.
Her earlier occupation is recorded as Hausfrau (housewife), followed by several civilian employment entries primarily involving domestic and household work. One of the recorded employers is Karl Pois in Vienna, a manufacturer of ocarinas.
The employment history continues through the WWII period and into the postwar years, with an entry dated 1947 still recorded in the original Third Reich-era Arbeitsbuch.
An interesting original civilian employment document illustrating the German labor administration system in wartime Vienna and its continued practical use after the collapse of the Third Reich.
