Original German WWII Krim Campaign Shield (Krimschild), instituted on July 25, 1942, to recognize German military personnel who participated in the campaign in the Crimea between 1941 and 1942.
The shield features the German national eagle above the dates “1941 – 1942”, with a central wreath and swastika positioned above a relief map of the Crimean Peninsula marked “KRIM.”
This example retains its field-grey cloth backing and original metal backplate, indicating an example prepared for wear on a military uniform. The bronze-colored finish displays substantial period wear and age patina while the principal design and lettering remain clearly defined.
The reverse retains three of the original four attachment prongs. One lower attachment prong is missing, and the original protective paper backing is no longer present. The field-grey cloth shows normal age and wear around the edges.
A well-used and attractive example of one of the best-known German WWII campaign shields.
