Description

Striking commemorative medal issued in 1982 for the Royal Canadian Dragoons (RCD) during their posting to Lahr, West Germany — one of Canada’s key NATO deployments during the Cold War era.

This unofficial medal features:

A large red enameled maple leaf pendant with a black battle tank emblem and the inscriptions RCD and LAHR

A multicolored ribbon in red, white, blue and yellow with a rectangular top bar marked 1982 and bearing the Canadian Forces emblem

Reverse is marked Carl Poellath – Schrobenhausen, a respected German maker known for producing commemorative badges for NATO troops stationed in Europe

Such medals were commonly issued for regimental open house events, commemorative parades, or as souvenir awards for participation in allied joint exercises. They are increasingly sought-after by collectors of Canadian Cold War militaria.

Condition: Very good+ overall; enamel is intact, ribbon shows minor wear/fraying at the bottom; pin fully functional
