Original Iron Cross 2nd Class (Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse), instituted on September 1st, 1939, and awarded for bravery or leadership on the battlefield. This example is a textbook WWII issue, displaying the 1939 date and swastika on the obverse, and the traditional “1813” on the reverse – referencing the medal’s Napoleonic origins.
Constructed with a magnetic iron core and silvered frame, the cross retains its original full-length tricolor ribbon (black-white-red), slightly frayed at the end from age. The paint shows wear, and patina is present throughout, consistent with an authentic period example.
