Original Italo-German Africa Campaign Medal (Medaglia italo-tedesca della campagna d’Africa), instituted in 1942 and awarded to German and Italian personnel who served in the North African campaign between 1941 and 1943.
This example is the Italian-manufactured version in bronze, featuring on the obverse the Arco dei Fileni flanked by a fasces and swastika, with the surrounding inscription “ITALIENISCH-DEUTSCHER FELDZUG IN AFRIKA”. The reverse depicts a symbolic scene of Axis cooperation, showing a German and Italian soldier standing over a fallen enemy.
The medal retains its original ribbon, displaying the correct Axis colors (black, white, red, white, green), with visible wear and age consistent with period use.
This award was commonly referred to as the “Afrika Medal” and is directly associated with the Afrika Korps and Axis operations in North Africa.
A classic and historically significant campaign medal from the Desert War.
Condition:
Good overall condition with natural age toning to the bronze finish. The ribbon shows honest wear, fraying, and slight discoloration consistent with age, adding to its authenticity. Medal details remain well defined.
