Original German period postcard depicting an impressive First World War memorial (Kriegerdenkmal) dedicated to the fallen soldiers of Oyten, a municipality in Lower Saxony, Germany.
The monument features a seated German soldier wearing a Stahlhelm and holding a rifle, portrayed in a solemn and contemplative pose. Below the figure, the large stone pedestal bears extensive lists of local servicemen who lost their lives during the First World War.
The inscription across the upper portion of the memorial reads “UNSEREN GEFALLENEN” – “To Our Fallen.”
Particularly interesting is the amount of historical information visible directly on the monument. The names are organized according to the surrounding communities, including Oyten, Bockhorst, Oyterdamm, Oyter Arbeiter Moor, Meyerdamm and other localities, with individual dates recorded beside many of the fallen.
The monument stands immediately beside a church, visible prominently in the background, giving the postcard excellent architectural and local-history context.
The reverse is in traditional German postcard format and remains essentially unused. The word “Oyten” has been handwritten in the address area, apparently identifying the location, but the card was never mailed and retains no postage stamp or cancellation.

Condition: Good original condition with moderate period age and handling wear. Some surface wear and small marks are visible, along with a noticeable crease/damage toward the lower-right portion of the photograph. Corners and edges show expected age. Reverse exhibits light toning and minor staining. Overall, the central image remains sharp and highly presentable.
