Description

Postwar German color postcard documenting the Obersalzberg and several historically significant locations associated with the former Third Reich complex.

Entitled “OBERSALZBERG von 1933 bis 1952,” the multi-view card combines historical images showing the area before, during and immediately after World War II.

The individual photographs are captioned:

• Hitlerhaus mit Göll
• Platterhof
• Hitlerhaus nach 1945
• Kasernen und Platterhof
• Bormannhaus und Hitlerhaus
• Göring Haus 1939
• Hitlerhaus 1938
• Sprengung Hitlerhaus 1952

The central photograph shows the heavily damaged remains of the Berghof following the war. Of particular historical interest is the lower-right image documenting the demolition of the Berghof ruins in 1952.

The reverse is captioned “Berchtesgaden – Der Obersalzberg im Wandel der Zeit” and identifies the publisher as COSY-Verlag of Salzburg, Austria. The photographs are credited to Ammon, Berchtesgaden.

This is a modern postwar souvenir postcard rather than a Third Reich-period postcard.
