Original German NSDAP (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei) Party Member’s Armband, commonly known as the Kampfbinde, dating from the Third Reich period.
This example features an interesting machine-woven insignia construction, consisting of a red cotton armband with a separately applied white cotton roundel. The black swastika is machine woven into the white roundel, rather than printed or constructed from separately applied black fabric.
The completed white roundel is machine stitched to the red cotton body with a zigzag-type stitch. The upper and lower edges of the armband are folded and machine sewn, while the reverse retains the original seam joining the armband into its sleeve form.
This construction represents one of the recognized manufacturing variations encountered on period NSDAP armbands and makes an interesting companion piece to examples utilizing printed or traditional multi-piece construction.
The armband remains complete and displays honest period wear, including age toning and discoloration to the white roundel, general wear to the red cotton body, and several darker stains visible on the reverse. Please refer closely to the photographs for condition.
