Original German Mother’s Cross in Bronze (Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter) awarded during the Third Reich to recognize German mothers who had given birth to four or five children.
Instituted on 16 December 1938, the Mother’s Cross was one of Germany’s most recognizable civilian awards. The bronze class was awarded to mothers of four or five children, while the Silver and Gold classes recognized larger families.
This attractive example features the classic blue translucent enamel cross with white enamel borders over a bronze sunburst. The obverse displays the inscription “DER DEUTSCHEN MUTTER” surrounding the central black enamel swastika. The reverse bears the inscription “16 Dezember 1938” together with Adolf Hitler’s facsimile signature.
The enamel remains vibrant with excellent color, making this a very attractive display piece for any Third Reich or civilian awards collection.
Condition
Very good overall condition. The bronze finish shows an attractive natural patina with light age-related wear. The blue and white enamel remains bright and glossy with no major chips or cracks observed. Lettering and details are crisp throughout.
