Description

Outstanding original First World War Glengarry cap badge for the 42nd Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF), also known as the Royal Highlanders of Canada. This elite Montreal-based unit was part of the famed Black Watch of Canada and saw extensive front-line service during the Great War.

The badge is die-struck in bronze, featuring the St. Andrew’s Cross in silver overlay over the regimental crest. The motto “Je me souviens” appears prominently above, with “CAN RES BN” (Canadian Reserve Battalion) below, and the central shield bearing the provincial arms of Quebec and the skull emblem — a unique and grim reminder of the regiment’s fierce combat history.

This specific example includes:

Original tang fasteners intact

Excellent patina to the bronze with silver elements still intact

No repairs, uncleaned, untouched finish – ideal for display or advanced collection

These early officer-grade or Glengarry variant badges are significantly scarcer than the standard service cap badges.
