The reverse is marked “Nach einem Original-Gemälde von Prof. C. Hommel” and identifies the card as Nr. 915 – Verlag Heinrich Hoffmann, München, placing it within the extensive postcard series published by Hitler’s official photographer and publisher Heinrich Hoffmann.
This particular example is especially interesting because it was genuinely used through the postal system during World War II, rather than remaining an unused collector’s example.
The reverse carries two French 4-franc postage stamps, both tied to the card by a French postal cancellation. A clearly dated German postal marking reading “STRASSBURG (ELS.) – 04.8.43” is also present.
The card is addressed in period handwriting to a recipient in Strassburg (Elsass). This unusual combination of a German Adolf Hitler propaganda postcard, French wartime postage, and dated 1943 postal markings provides additional postal-history interest beyond the subject of the postcard itself.
The card shows noticeable age and handling wear, including several scratches and areas of surface/image loss. Most notably, there is a larger area of image loss at the lower left corner, with additional loss at the lower right and smaller scattered losses within the printed image. Edge wear, light staining and age toning are also present. Despite these condition issues, the central portrait remains strong and the card retains considerable historical and postal interest.
