Description

Postwar German color postcard showing Adolf Hitler’s Berghof at Obersalzberg before and after its destruction.

The upper photograph presents the Berghof as it appeared before its destruction, while the lower image shows the heavily damaged ruins of the building against the surrounding Alpine landscape.

The bilingual caption reads:

“Hitler-Haus vor und nach der Zerstörung”
“House of Hitler before and after destruction”

The Berghof was heavily damaged during the Allied bombing of the Obersalzberg in April 1945. Its remaining ruins were later demolished by the Bavarian authorities in 1952.

The reverse identifies the location as Berchtesgaden / Obersalzberg and the publisher as COSY-Verlag, Salzburg, Austria. The photographs are credited to Ammon, Berchtesgaden, and the postcard carries reference number D 424.
