An original German Honor Cross of the World War 1914–1918 (Ehrenkreuz des Weltkrieges), commonly known as the Hindenburg Cross, instituted on July 13, 1934, by President Paul von Hindenburg to commemorate the service of German participants during the First World War.
This example is the Civilian (Non-Combatant) Version, manufactured without crossed swords and awarded to civilians who contributed to Germany’s war effort during World War I. It retains an attractive original bronze finish and is suspended from its original period ribbon.
The reverse is clearly maker marked “R.V.1 PFORZHEIM”, a desirable and well-documented manufacturer from the renowned medal-making city of Pforzheim. The cross displays honest period wear while retaining excellent overall eye appeal.
An excellent original example of one of Germany’s most iconic commemorative decorations, ideal for any Imperial German or Third Reich medal collection.
Condition: Very good original condition with attractive age patina and honest period wear. Original bronze finish remains well preserved with expected handling marks. Original ribbon is complete and displays light age-related fraying consistent with its age. Reverse maker marked R.V.1 PFORZHEIM.
