German WWII Kriegsmarine-style enlisted men’s and non-commissioned officers’ sailor cap insignia, associated with the traditional German naval sailor’s cap (Matrosenmütze), commonly referred to by collectors as the “Donald Duck Cap.”
This example features a metal national eagle with outstretched wings, clutching a wreath containing a swastika, positioned above a circular German national cockade.
The eagle displays detailed feathering and a darkened, silver-gray appearance, with traces of lighter metal visible on the raised surfaces. Its finish exhibits noticeable age-related patina and oxidation.
The circular cockade features a red fabric center surrounded by concentric metal rings, with traces of a brass-colored finish, and a black serrated outer border.
The reverse reveals a long vertical metal pin attachment, along with a circular backing plate featuring several rectangular openings and a horizontal retaining strip.
The metal components show age-related surface wear, discoloration and oxidation, particularly around the eagle and its attachment points.
The cockade retains its distinctive red center and circular detailing, while the black backing shows wear along its edges.
**Condition Note:** Visible patina, oxidation, surface wear and darkening throughout. The long vertical pin remains present. Please examine the photographs for the exact condition and construction.
An interesting German naval-style cap insignia for collectors of WWII Kriegsmarine uniforms, sailor headgear and military insignia.
