An original German WWII Iron Cross 1st Class (Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse 1939). This unmarked example features a magnetic iron core with much of its original black finish remaining and an attractive silvered frame displaying honest period age.
The reverse retains its original hinge and pin assembly; however, the catch hook is missing, preventing the pin from locking into place. Aside from this issue, the cross remains an original wartime example with pleasing overall appearance and strong display value.
The Iron Cross 1st Class was awarded to soldiers who had already received the Iron Cross 2nd Class and continued to distinguish themselves through bravery in combat.
