Original German Third Reich 40-Year Faithful Service Decoration (Treudienst-Ehrenzeichen 1. Stufe für 40 Jahre), complete with its original ribbon and period presentation case.
Instituted in 1938, the Faithful Service Decoration recognized long and faithful civilian and public service. The First Class was awarded for 40 years of service and was distinguished by its gilt finish.
The decoration consists of a gilt cross pattée surrounded by an oak-leaf wreath. The obverse features a central black enameled swastika, while the reverse bears the Gothic inscription “Für treue Dienste” (For Faithful Service).
The medal retains an attractive gilt finish with strong detail and intact black enamel. It is suspended from its original cornflower-blue ribbon, which retains the horizontal pin attachment on the reverse.
The set is housed in its original red presentation case featuring the distinctive gilt “40” surrounded by a wreath on the lid. The interior retains its burgundy velvet medal bed and cream-colored satin lid lining.
The decoration remains in very good overall condition. The presentation case exhibits honest age and storage wear, including surface rubbing and minor edge/corner wear, while remaining structurally complete and displaying very well.
